Presence Information missing with Outlook 2013

People presence information with Outlook 2013
I recently installed Windows 8 on my laptop and also installed Office 2013. I installed Office Communicator 2007 on my laptop. When I opened Outlook 2013, I could not see the Presence information for people, even though I had logged into the Communicator desktop application.

The following is the fix, which worked :

1. Go to Registry editor
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IM Providers
3. You will see a sub groups : Communicator and Lync
4. In "DefaultIMApp", I saw it value as "Lync"
5. I modified it to "Communicator" [spell it same as the folder name u find in #3 above
6. Restart Outlook 2013

And it worked !!

Read my CodePlex post @ http://migratealerts.codeplex.com/

This powershell script will help you to import alerts from a CSV file into SharePoint 2010. This is particularly helpful when you are migrating from SP2007 to SP 2010 where alerts are not migrated. I have another project http://allalerts.codeplex.com/ which can export all alerts available in a Farm into a CSV file. You can then use this Script to import all alerts in that CSV file. Obviously you have to CHANGE ALL THE TARGET URLS IN THE CSV FILE BEFORE IMPORTING.
Cognizant's SharePoint CoE now has an in-house Migration Suite called CSMS[Cognizant SharePoint Migration suite]. This is set of ready to use tools and templates for doing any migration project involving SharePoint.
As part of this suite, they also have a tool for Migrating from Lotus Notes to SharePoint. This tool is cool !! No server installations required for this tool, and works using the SP out of box web services.
This tool will be a huge benefit for its customers.

Congrats to Cognizant team who built this Suite.

MOSS 2007 Search Architecture
• There is an index server that builds the index.
• There is a physical index file that is pushed to each WFE server.
• There is a query service that runs on the WFE that queries the index file.
• There are SSPs which are to host search services and control what content is indexed.
• The BDC is used to add external data (from a database and web services) to the index.
• There is an access control list which is used to manage security to items.
